Inclusion Celebrations 2024

19th Apr 2024

We celebrated our annual Inclusion Week this week. The theme for this year is ‘Cogs of Connection’, where we are learning and celebrating how our brains work and how they are all so different and so special. We encourage understanding and tolerance of others and their perspectives, while also celebrating how diversity makes life so much richer and more interesting.

Inclusive education means all students learning side by side in the same classroom. Our school values diversity and the unique contributions each student brings to the classroom. During this week our celebrations included creating a whole school  artistic presentation of the brain using wooden cogs, signing some beautiful songs using LAMH signs , including Paradise (WDSD 2024)  and I'm a Miracle ( an assembly favorite),  completing lessons about how the brain works, listening to stories to highlight neurodiversity & differing perspectives, culminating in a very special assembly on Friday 19th April when the whole school came together to support each other and to celebrate everything we have learned and discussed during the week.

On this day, the children and staff  dressed up in anything they wanted, something unique to them such as their favorite colours, club kit, special cultural attire etc.  Children were invited to bring in €1/€2 to support this years chosen charity.  This year the student council have decided to support Finding Charlies Voice, which supports children with speech and language communication needs in Ireland. We will also be investing in communication boards for the school playground and corridors. The amount raised was was €502.30! Many thanks to all for your generosity. Finally a huge thanks to all the staff and pupils  for making this week so enjoyable, especially the Inclusion Committee for putting it all together.
