We celebrated our annual Inclusion Week this week. The theme for this year is ‘Make your Mark' . We encouraged all our children and staff to have the courage to make their mark on the world and have confidence to be themselves. We acknowledged all the big and little things we can achieve both individually and as a group. We continued to celebrate how diversity makes life so much richer and more interesting. Our school values diversity and the unique contributions each student brings to our school and our lives.
We had a very special Inclusion assembly on Friday 9th May. On this day, the children and staff dressed up in anything they wanted, something unique to them such as their club/dance kit, special cultural attire etc. Or they wore a variety of colours (matching colours, clashing colours or all one colour)...whatever made them feel good about themselves. Money was also collected to support a charity and SEN in our school. In the past, the Student council chose to support such charities as Finding Charlies Voice, Join our Boys Trust, Friends of Autism & ADHD (Skerries & Balbriggan), Remember Me Centre in Balbriggan and the Down Syndrome Centre in Swords.
In conjunction with Creative schools project, all pupils created artistic presentations inspired by the book ‘The Dot’, and sang a song called ‘What I am’ by Will.i.am ..both encouraging children to have confidence to believe in their own abilities and encourage others to do the same.
in addition they invited the TY students in from Lusk Community School to support various art projects around the school, including the painting of the ‘quiet area’ in our yard. The multi colours represents the diversity we have in our school and how beautiful it can be when we all come together. We are so grateful to the TY students & their teachers for all their support and hard work during the week as we wouldn’t have got it done without them!
